From Struggles to Stardom: Timaya Shares His Journey and Unshakable Passion for Music

In a heartfelt reflection, Nigerian music legend Timaya opened up about his deep-rooted connection to music and the sacrifices he made on his road to success. His words serve as both inspiration and a reminder of what it means to truly believe in your craft.

> “If you give me 10 billion naira now, I’ll be excited, but if I make that same money through music, I feel blessed. It holds a deeper value for me.” — Timaya

For Timaya, music isn't just a way to make money — it's a calling. Long before the fame and sold-out concerts, he was hustling hard behind the scenes, performing as a backup singer and grinding just to make ends meet.

> “Sometimes I’d perform with a live band, work as a backup singer just to get paid. There’s this guy called Shola at Mainland — that’s where most artists go to print CDs. Once I got paid, I’d send the money to him. He’d print 1,000 copies, and I’d go pick them up from the park.”

With nothing but belief in himself and a small bag on his back, Timaya hit the streets with his music. He knocked on doors — homes, offices, shops — asking people to play his CD. All he wanted was airplay, a chance to be heard.

> “I believed so much in myself. There was no plan B. I never thought of doing anything else. There’s nothing I would have done without music. It’s the only thing that truly satisfies me.”

Even now, with all his achievements, Timaya’s passion hasn't dimmed. He’s still recording constantly, capturing every idea and emotion — storing them as memories on his phone.

>“No matter what I’m going through, I’m always recording. I can even show you recordings on my phone. I don’t throw my phones away — I keep them because they carry memories.”

Timaya’s journey is proof that belief, resilience, and relentless hustle can turn dreams into reality.
